the “laugh now, cry later” you are referring to is actually the comedy/tragedy masks which are drama/theatrical symbols. The origins stem from ancient Greece when actors always wore masks on stage.
Im guessing that they have been adapted to mean “laugh now, cry later” as in like “laugh now, then i’ll get you.” something like that.
In reality…they’re drama symbols.
