Help with Chinese symbols for tattoos, please?

Hi, my husband and I are planning to get Chinese symbols tattooed. He will get the Chinese symbol for “Hope” and I will get the symbol for “Star”. If anyone could please link me to pics of those symbols, it would be greatly appreciated. It would be even better if you could link me to a FEW sites that show me those are the correct symbols, just to be sure. Thanks a lot in advance.

Hope: 希望

Star: 星星

I hope this helps. I am perfectly sure these symbols are correct. If you do not believe me, insert these symbols ANYWHERE. I did not use English to Chinese translators.

我的名字是郑耀天。我从五岁开始学习中文。

If you would like me to translate something else please email me at: joshown@yahoo.com.

Snake

A snake smells with its tongue, hears with its flesh, and breathes under the sand with one lung; it can copulate for days with one snake or with fifty at once; it has infrared radar; and it can induce spontaneous bleeding if threatened. With all these qualities, it is easy to see how snakes have such varied associations in cultures around the world: while celebrated in tattoos and tales, and for medicinal benefits, snakes are also so universally feared that they constantly endure intense persecution and rarely enjoy protected rights. Drake Stutesman explores here in Snake the fascinating natural history of the maligned serpentine. Stutesman examines a wide range of sources to investigate the complex and widespread symbolism the snake has inspired, including the serpent’s temptation of Eve in the Bible, Kaa in The Jungle Book, the Chinese zodiac, Indian snake charmers, and the Hollywood film Anaconda. She looks at the role snakes have played in human culture and science, from snake cuisine and the use of venom in medicine to the intriguing history of snake symbolism in art, architecture, cinema, and even clothing. Richly illustrated and written in an engaging style, Snake is an invaluable resource for snake enthusiasts and scholars, as well as for all who love, admire, or fear this fascinating and enduring animal.

The Genesis and Geometry of the Labyrinth

The Genesis and Geometry of the Labyrinth

$29.95

A groundbreaking look at the phenomenon of the labyrinth, connecting this ancient symbol to modern scientific principles. – Illustrated with labyrinths from around the world and throughout history. – Demonstrates how the labyrinth differs from a maze and how it is a tool for interpreting ancient myths and religious beliefs. – Draws parallels between the labyrinth and quantum physics, showing how through the secrets of the labyrinth we can unlock the mystery of life itself. The powerful symbol of the labyrinth exists in countless cultures spanning the globe from Africa and ancient Greece to India, China, and pre-Colombian North and South America. For centuries they have been used for religious rituals, meditation, and spiritual and physical healing. In the labyrinth humanity finds a model of the quintessential sacred space that depicts the most profound levels of consciousness. Its center is regarded in many cultures as a door between two worlds, thus providing individuals with the ideal place for self questioning and meditation. In a comprehensive exploration of this time-honored symbol, Patrick Conty shows how the geometrical construction of the ancient labyrinth corresponds exactly with today’s modern geometry, illustrating that recent developments in math and physics parallel the science of ancient civilizations. By looking at the way the two systems complement each other, Conty draws new conclusions about the ancient world and how that world can benefit us right now. Conty explores not only physical labyrinths but also reveals how the same transcendent principles are at work in Celtic knot work; the designs of ancient Chinese cauldrons; the tattoos and tracings ofprimitive art; the textiles of Africa, Peru, and Central America; and the geometric patterns in Islamic art.

Despite a growing fascination with tattooing among social scientists – and the popularity of tattoos themselves in general – the practice of tattooing still lacks a comprehensive historical record. Until very recently, there was no good context for writing a serious world history of tattooing. The present volume for the first time manages to convey the richness of the history of tattooing from antiquity to the present day.Unlike most other tattoo books it does not describe one aspect but rather aims to convey the overall picture. Each of the seven continents is described in terms of tattoo history and tattoo practices. Thus the book provides the reader with a truly global view of tattooing. It adds new information and new examples and insights which help the reader to gain a new perspective. By combining empirical history, powerful cultural analysis, and a highly readable style, the author adds an important step to the ongoing effort of writing a meaningful cultural history of tattooing. He does not draw new conclusions or present shocking new theories, but suggests and invites the reader to form his own opinions. This publication presents the reader with an almost overwhelming amount of textual and visual information.
