I really like celtic designs and patterns I was thinking of getting a celtic like tattoo but I was worried that people will think Im weird because I know its european/ white and Im black. I know ppl can get whatever tattoo they want but what do you all think?
Get what ever tattoo you want its your body and your idea.. i have all religions , all areas of the world covered on my body and i have no regrrets, but nothing was ever off the wall and always drawn for me and i take everything with me after so noone can have the ‘exact’ tat…i have a body suit and worked a few shops and plenty of black people get tattooed, good luck on your design and your adventure… remember its just something that means something to you not everyone else…. j

Tattoo Art and Design $1.99 Tattoos are sexy, fashionable, and creative. This compendium features over 480 designs by the world’s leading young graphic artists for tattoos that are new, different, and edgy.Little has appeared that explores fresh designs for tattoos by contemporary graphic artists and designers. Tattoo Art & Design corrects this with designs by over 60 of today’s up-and-coming designers. Among the featured designers are Kinpro, Klaus Haapaniemi, Marcus Oakley, Rex Koo, Rinzen, Musa Collective, and Stapelberg & Fritz. The designs featured here shatter the conventional notion of the tattoo. Gone are hearts inscribed with names, anchors, Celtic harps, or tribal bands. The Genesis and Geometry of the Labyrinth $29.95 A groundbreaking look at the phenomenon of the labyrinth, connecting this ancient symbol to modern scientific principles. – Illustrated with labyrinths from around the world and throughout history. – Demonstrates how the labyrinth differs from a maze and how it is a tool for interpreting ancient myths and religious beliefs. – Draws parallels between the labyrinth and quantum physics, showing how through the secrets of the labyrinth we can unlock the mystery of life itself. The powerful symbol of the labyrinth exists in countless cultures spanning the globe from Africa and ancient Greece to India, China, and pre-Colombian North and South America. For centuries they have been used for religious rituals, meditation, and spiritual and physical healing. In the labyrinth humanity finds a model of the quintessential sacred space that depicts the most profound levels of consciousness. Its center is regarded in many cultures as a door between two worlds, thus providing individuals with the ideal place for self questioning and meditation. In a comprehensive exploration of this time-honored symbol, Patrick Conty shows how the geometrical construction of the ancient labyrinth corresponds exactly with today’s modern geometry, illustrating that recent developments in math and physics parallel the science of ancient civilizations. By looking at the way the two systems complement each other, Conty draws new conclusions about the ancient world and how that world can benefit us right now. Conty explores not only physical labyrinths but also reveals how the same transcendent principles are at work in Celtic knot work; the designs of ancient Chinese cauldrons; the tattoos and tracings ofprimitive art; the textiles of Africa, Peru, and Central America; and the geometric patterns in Islamic art. |

Written on the Body $32.03 Despite the social sciences’ growing fascination with tattooing — and the immense popularity of tattoos themselves — the practice has not left much of a historical record. And, until very recently, there was no good context for writing a serious history of tattooing in the West. This collection exposes, for the first time, the richness of the tattoo’s European and American history from antiquity to the present day. In the process, it rescues tattoos from their stereotypical and sensationalized association with criminality. The tattoo has long hovered in a space between the cosmetic and the punitive. Throughout its history, the status of the tattoo has been complicated by its dual association with slavery and penal practices on the one hand and exotic or forbidden sexuality on the other. The tattoo appears often as an involuntary stigma, sometimes as a self-imposed marker of identity, and occasionally as a beautiful corporal decoration. This volume analyzes the tattoo’s fluctuating, often uncomfortable position from multiple angles. Individual chapters explore fascinating segments of its history — from the metaphorical meanings of tattooing in Celtic society to the class-related commodification of the body in Victorian Britain, from tattooed entertainers in Germany to tattooing and piercing as self-expression in the contemporary United States. But they also accumulate to form an expansive, textured view of permanent bodily modification in the West.By combining empirical history, powerful cultural analysis, and a highly readable style, this volume both draws on and propels the ongoing effort to write a meaningful cultural history of the body. The contributors, representingseveral disciplines, have all conducted extensive original research into the Western tattoo. Together, they have produced an unrivalled account of its history. |

Individual chapters explore fascinating segments of its history–from the metaphorical meanings of tattooing in Celtic society to the class-related commodification of the body in Victorian Britain, from tattooed entertainers in Germany to tattooing and piercing as self-expression in the contemporary United States. But they also accumulate to form an expansive, textured view of permanent bodily modification in the West.By combining empirical history, powerful cultural analysis, and a highly readable style, this volume both draws on and propels the ongoing effort to write a meaningful cultural history of the body. The contributors, representing severaldisciplines, have all conducted extensive original research into the Western tattoo. Together, they have produced an unrivalled account of its history. They are, in addition to the editor, Clare Anderson, Susan Benson, James Bradley, Ian Duffield, Juliet Fleming, Alan Govenar, Harriet Guest, Mark |
